All was well the night before, then came a very slight stomach ache. The next morning she was doubled over on the floor in excruciating pain. My friend called 911 and the ambulance came to pick up his wife.
The doctors quickly identified the problem: severe pancreatitis. Caused for unknown reasons, her pancreas had turned against her body, severe enough that she almost died.
My friend’s wife is slowly recovering, still with unexplained side-effects, but weeks in the mend.
A month before, my friend had been hospitalized for heart problems and then a diagnosis of another, painful medical complication. Not in perfect health himself, he’s been caring for his wife around the clock, and last night his water heater sprung 5 leaks.
Bad things happen to everyone. God makes the sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust (Matthew 5:45). The difference between the “evil” and the “good”, and the “just” and the “unjust” is that when the sun sets and the rains cease, the loving and caring God remains the same.
