When Evil Prospers

Open the newspaper.  Turn on the television news.  Check out your favorite online news source.  Evil in the world around us is pronounced, growing, and is very, very real.

The theory of evolution proposes the humanity becomes better as education, technology, and time progress; the Bible says that evil and evil doers get worse and worse as time goes on (Second Timothy 3:13).

As we see – and experience – the growing influence of evil around us, it’s easy to become discouraged and ask the age-old question: If there is a God, and He is good, why does He allow evil?  This is a great question with a Biblical answer, but that must wait for another day.  What I will say is that evildoers will not get away with their evil.  Evil may seem to prosper for the moment, but it will not always be so.

Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the wicked; for there will be no prospect for the evil man; the lamp of the wicked will be put out  (Proverbs 24:19-20).

Evil men and women will be judged by God, who is both just and good.

It is interesting that the TV news is mostly about negativity–all the terrible things that happen in the world. We seldom hear stories about the good things people are doing. I never thought of this before, but reporting mainly on the ‘evil’ things discredits God and probably makes people ask that question, “Why does God allow…..?” If the news anchors reported on the good things, they might discover that most of the good things are being done by Christians–and that would give God credit. But, we live in a postmodern era which is hostile to Christianity–so goodness cannot be allowed in the news.

  2. In spite of all of the difficulties that life can throw my way.. my heart still welcomes people with an open and loving heart. think that’s what stops evil in its tracks.

  3. Yes, I am relying solely on the Lord…on His mercy and judgment, on His justice, on His ending coming to fruition in every way! I was reminded of Psalm 1:

” 1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
    whatever they do prospers.
    4 Not so the wicked!
    They are like chaff
    that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.”

  4. “… reporting mainly on the ‘evil’ things discredits God and probably makes people ask that question, “Why does God allow…..?” Which is a good reason for believers to be ready with an answer for the hope we have.
    Keep the Faith!
