Nelson Mandela, the former president of the Republic of South Africa, died last week at the age of 95 (1918 – 2013).
Mr Mandela spent 27 years of his adult life in a South African prison for championing the freedom, rights, and equality of black Africans in their own nation. His was a life, though not perfect, of a man who didn’t just talk big and make a lot of noise, but who was willing to give his life whatever the result.
America is full of men and women who are willing to talk big. They go on television and organize protests to earn votes or raise money to make themselves rich. They talk out of one side of their mouths but live opposite from those they claim to represent. Not one of them has ever gone to jail for their cause; not one of them is willing to actually give their lives for their cause.
As Christians, we must be willing to stand for truth, no matter the consequences … no matter the cost … no matter what anyone thinks of us or does to us. Christ Jesus gave His life as a sacrifice for sinners, we can at least give our lives for the Saviour.
Contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 3).
