Jared Fogle made a name for himself and a little-known sandwich restaurant in 1999 by losing 245 pounds eating only from Subway.
More recently Iowa school teacher John Cisna lost 37 pounds in 90 days and lowered his cholesterol by 32% by eating at McDonalds 3 times a day. North Carolinian Merab Morgan lost 30 pounds in 30 days and is the creator of the now-popular “McDonalds Diet.”
And we can’t forget Christine Hall, a 66-year old law librarian in Virginia. She lost 76 pounds by eating and drinking only Starbucks products.
These diets are much tastier than the once popular grapefruit diet, salad diet, and especially the diet of Jello and cotton balls from the 1970s. Instead, it appears that weight loss can be achieved on almost any diet by almost any person. The secret is knowing your body type and not exceeding 2,000 calories per day.
The human body is the most miraculous machine in this world. Yes, better than the bulldozer, the i-phone, and even the can opener. These last three were designed and built by men with minds flawed by sin; the human body – while also imperfect because of sin – was nonetheless designed by the perfect Creator. Humans can eat a very wide assortment of foods – even foods commonly called “un-healthy” and still remain healthy.
But God’s design for you is much, much more than reaching a particular body weight or mass. As the Apostle Paul explained it: Bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come (1 Timothy 4:8).
Do you spend as much time and effort to be strong and healthy spiritually as you do physically? Spiritual health is something we can all work at more. God would have us all be spiritual heavy-weights in His kingdom.
