I meant to kill him, and 35 years later I’m still haunted by the guilt.
I saw him in the bushes. I knew what I was doing as I raised and aimed the gun at him. The bullet penetrated his chest and he fell to the ground. I buried his body in the trees so no one would find him. I still remember. I killed a sparrow with a b-b gun.
Did God care about that bird? Yes. God created it and saw that it was fed each day. But as much as God cared for that bird, the Bible never says that God loves animals. It does, however, say that He loves you. If He is your Father, and you His child, God loves you.
Jesus said, Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will…. Do not fear therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows (Matthew 10:29, 31).
