God’s Word is truth (John 17:17), but what happens when someone twists it to suit his own ideas? What happens when the pure Word of God (Prov 30:5) isn’t rightly divided (2 Tim 2:15)? What happens if God’s child is more concerned with the feeling he gets than with the whatsoever things are true(Phil 4:8)? What happens when God’s true words (2 Sam 7:28) are misused and God’s people are too lazy to exercise discernment in judging what is being written, taught, or preached (1 Cor 14:29)?
Paul warned the Galatians of those who came to pervert the gospel of Christ (Gal 1:7). Even if the message came from an angel from heaven … and preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be damned (Gal 1:7, 9).
The Apostle’s last recorded sermon as a free man was a warning about savage wolves coming in the church (Acts 20:29). From among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears (Acts 20:30-31).
The Word of the truth (Col 1:5) is not a toy to tinker with, yet how few Christians are on “watch” for false teaching and fail to “remember” the sacrifice of the Biblical writers to deliver the truth to us. We are asleep at the gate and not guarding our hearts and minds. We must contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3).
