He Chose

There is nothing like knowing that you are so deeply loved that someone would choose you. You may not be the most beautiful, talented, achieved, or socially acceptable, yet someone choosing you should bring joy! This is “true love”; for if love were based on merit, we’d all be losers.

Man is totally depraved, spiritually dead, and unable to do anything with regard to God and His salvation, so God took the action needed to save fallen humanity.

Because man is unable to seek or even reach out to God, the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). His plan to redeem fallen humanity wasn’t a hair-brained scheme God dreamed up late one night after watching Adam and Eve sin.  Rather than wringing His hands in worry as He concocted a “Plan X”, the Bible says that God, from the beginning, chose you for salvation (2 Thess 2:13).

God determined to create mankind, knowing exactly what Adam would do. Even before creating Adam, God determined to save fallen humanity by His grace. He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world … having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will (Eph 1:4-5).

You were not born by your own choosing, nor were you born again by your choosing. From eternity, God had a holy purpose in choosing you. Ephesians 1:5 says He chose you for the good pleasure of His own will. He chose you because it pleased Him to do so, not because He looked into the future to see what you would do.

There is a great joy that fills the human heart to know that neither your life nor your salvation are an accident. Before you ever existed, God chose you to be His very own dear child!

The Doctrine of Election inspires joy and profound humility. God chose you, spiritually dead and filled with hatred toward Him, because it pleased Him to do so.
