As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem (Isaiah 66:13).
Andre’s mother had a checkered past. She’d been arrested for marijuana use numerous times and was convicted of child neglect after leaving her 2 small children un-attended. The judge sentenced her to 20 hours of problem solving and communication classes (here).
Then in October 2014, Andre Sosa died in the city of Keizer, Oregon. The 4-year died in an apartment fire. Investigators determined that the fire was started because the mother had been smoking marijuana. While high, she watched her baby burn to death (here).
Children are always one of the parties most harmed by drug use and abuse. Ride along with your local police department and see it for yourself. Drugs are neither harmless nor recreational.
God created the role of motherhood for the purpose of raising godly children (Malachi 2:15) and to provide comfort to them. In the case of Andre Sosa and many other children who die under similar circumstances, their mothers woefully failed.
In Isaiah 66:13, God extols the role of motherhood. He likens His own comfort to that of a caring and loving mother. Little Andre never knew the comfort of a loving mother. She loved marijuana more than she loved her children, but God’s love never fails and His comfort lasts an eternity.
