God’s Sol

The Sun 9.1.15

When you think of the sun, what comes to mind?

These are a few interesting facts about the star at the center of our solar system.

  • The sun has a diameter of 2,715,395 miles (4,730,005 kilometers).
  • You would travel 92.96 million miles or 149.6 million kilometers to reach the sun.
  • It is more than one million times larger than the Earth.
  • It takes about 8 minutes for light from the sun to reach the Earth.
  • Scientists estimate the temperature of the sun’s surface to be 9,941 degrees Fahrenheit (5,500 Celsius).

Jesus added another interesting detail you won’t find in a school textbook and we Christians are prone to forget: The sun belongs to God the Father.  He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust (Matthew 5:45).
