I grew up nearly 50 years ago in a traditional Pentecostal congregation. As a child, each Sunday morning we’d head off to our classrooms and do a craft, hear Bible stories, and sing songs. We’d sing:
Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong; they are weak, but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so.
The B – I -B – L – E. Yes! that’s the Book for me. I stand alone on the Word of God, the B – I – B – L – E.
We knew that God loved us because the Bible tells me so. We knew that we stood alone on the Word of God – not that we stood by ourselves, but that the Scriptures were out only authority for faith and practice.
Oh! For the ‘good old days’ when the Bible was our foundation and not our feelings, experiences, and thoughts.
I trust in Your word (Psalm 119:42).
