My teenage son was cleaning his bedroom so he could rearrange his furniture. He was motivated by the idea of a re-invented room, even if it was going to take time to accomplish the task. The all-day event suddenly came to a halt when he ran out yelling, “It’s a mouse!”
“Where?” I asked.
“It’s under my shelf. It’s dead. I’m not going back in there.”
Calmly I told him to pick it up with a plastic sack and throw it in the trash can.
“I can’t do that. What if it tries to get me?”
After I stopped laughing, I picked up the rock-hard mouse with a plastic bag, tied it shut, and threw it in the trash can outside.
The Bible says that one day, when Jesus is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure (1 John 3:2, 3).
If your hope is to one day see Jesus in Heaven and become like Him, then you’ll want to start acting like it today. You’ll desire purity of life, just like Jesus possesses. If Heaven is your desire, you’ll be glad to dispose of the dead mouse hidden under the shelf.
