Who is in control of the universe?
- A) Satan
- B) Your will
- C) Chance
- D) God
If Satan rules the universe, evil is always the end result and is always triumphant.
If your will controls the universe, there is utter chaos. Seven billion people in the world, and each one has a will. Those 7 billion wills are in constant conflict.
If chance governs the universe, there is nothing certain or absolute. Tomorrow, by chance, the sun may not rise, the earth could suddenly lurch and rotate counter-clockwise, and fish grow legs and abandon the oceans.
The first option is Satanism, the second is humanism, and the third is atheism.
Christianity rests in the absolute certainty that God rules over all things (Daniel 5:21) and all things belong to Him (Psalm 24:1). He ordains, performs, and governs all things in accordance with His indeterminate will (Psalm 135:6). Before time began He determined every beginning from every end and everything in between (Psalm 139:16).
God directs the hearts of kings (Proverbs 21:1), causes donkeys to speak (2 Peter 2:15-16), and moves time backward at His will (Isaiah 38:8). He knows every detail of every future event because He predestined each detail from eternity past and will carry out each detail perfectly according to His will (Revelation 17:17).
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power and glory, the victory and the majesty; for all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours; Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and You are exalted as head over all (1 Chronicles 29:11).
