“I’m just a bald and blind guy on a journey to Heaven. I may have to make this journey alone, but I will make it. I’ll finish my course. I’ll fulfill God’s calling.”
A graduate of Multnomah School of the Bible and Abilene Bible Seminary, Richard has a doctorate in ancient Biblical literature and is the author of numerous books, articles, Biblical commentaries, songs, and since 2011, the devotional blog, “Where Living Begins“.
Since his teenage years, Richard has labored to follow the call of Christ into Christian service. Raised in a traditional Pentecostal church, he entered the ministry, serving in Foursquare, Assemblies of God, and Open Bible Standard churches before beginning an independent, non-denominational church. Not beholden to any organization, he is also not opposed to organization.
He is known for careful and theological expository preaching and teaching of the Bible in a systematic manner, endeavoring to rightly divide the Word of Truth. He believes that context is everything in Bible understanding. “God gave us the Bible verse-by-verse, that’s how He expects us to read it, study it, preach it, and understand it.”
Once an Arminian Pentecostal, Pastor Rice now embraces the Reformed tradition, but with a Dispensational view of God’s plan for the ages.
He has preached in Kenya, Mexico, and the United States where he presently pastors the Sellwood Community Church, in Portland, Oregon. Richard lives with his wife and son in a small community 45 minutes west of Portland.
These blogs represent his own thoughts, feelings, and understanding of God’s Word, and don’t necessarily reflect the official beliefs or ideas of his church.
