Is Jesus Still a Man?

He made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a servant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross (Philippians 2:7-8).

Yes, Jesus is still a Man!

The Bible teaches that the immortal, invisible Second Person of the Godhead took upon Himself human flesh and blood (Hebrews 2:14). In His Incarnation, He didn’t stop being God, but humanity was added to His being. As the hymn, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” says, Christ’s deity was “veiled in flesh.”

Immortal deity cannot die, so when Jesus died on the cross, it was His humanity that died and was buried. The same body that went into the tomb came out of the tomb! Since His deity didn’t die, what was raised from the dead on the third day was His humanity.

At His resurrection, Jesus was still human, and proved it by eating food with the disciples (Luke 24:42-43). He also showed them the wounds He still bore from being crucified (John 20:24-28). In the resurrection, the mortal flesh of Jesus took on immortality, yet He remained as the Nicene Creed says, Man of very man and still God of very God. His nature didn’t change.

Forty days later, Jesus ascended into Heaven. The same Jesus who was born, died, and raised from the dead entered Heaven and was glorified. Angels proclaimed that the same human Jesus who ascended into Heaven will one day return to the Earth.

Years after His ascension to Heaven, Jesus appeared to the Apostle John. John described Him as like the Son of Man, Jesus’ favorite title to describe His humanity (Revelation 1:13). Neither at the resurrection nor the ascension did Jesus become an angel, an apple, or an antelope.

First Timothy 2:5 says that today there is [ present tense ] one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus. Because Jesus is still human, He is able to bear with us in our spiritual weakness of sin (Hebrews 4:15). He is still as Pilate pronounced Him, Ecce Homo, Behold the Man! (John 19:5), both male and human, fully Man and fully Deity.
