About The Blogger

“I’m just a bald and blind guy on a journey to Heaven. I may have to make this journey alone, but I will make it. I’ll finish my course. I’ll fulfill God’s calling.”

Richard has a doctorate in Biblical literature and is the author of numerous books, articles, Biblical commentaries, songs, and since 2011, this devotional blog, “Where Living Begins“. He is a member of the faculty of Berean School of Ministry in Kenya.

He holds to historic Reformed theology of the Doctrines of Grace and a Dispensational hermeneutic.

He is known for careful and theological expository preaching, teaching the Bible in a verse-by-verse systematic manner, endeavoring to rightly divide the Word of Truth. He believes that context is everything in Bible understanding. God gave us the Bible verse-by-verse so that’s how He expects us to read it, study it, preach it, and understand it.

He has pastored and preached abroad and in the United States for 39 years. Today Richard lives in a small town with more cows than people in the heart of the beautiful Wyoming prairie.

These blogs represent his own thoughts, feelings, and understanding of God’s Word.

All blog posts quote from the New King James Version of the Bible, unless otherwise noted.

Good job Richard. Keep up the good work. And regardless of how you feel about Rhubarb, Leona gave you good advice about the blog. In fact, I have contemplated doing the same, but never got to it. You did and that’s great. Blessings to you, Kim and Daniel.

Not sure what made you think I was a woman, but I am indeed a man. Always have been. Always will be. Thank you for your comments and for reading my simple thoughts.

  2. Hi Richard, Wow did I get it wrong, I put 1 and 1 together and got 3, I’m so sorry, normally when they have a picture with a message it’s the person who owns the Blog, but not always, I think the topic was upsetting me so much that I was not putting things together as I should. I’m pleased your a Man or you might have deleted my next comment when I explained that God ordained a Man to be in Leadership and a woman to be his Helpmate and under his Authority both are high callings and only really possible God’s way by the empowering of The Holy Spirit, you may still delete this others have and I don’t know you but it is God’s Truth even if ignored today.

Sorry again – Christian Love Anne

I’m a big believer in grace over law, forgiveness over judgment. After all, isn’t that how God responds to people who come to Him in faith? How can I do less?

And no, I won’t delete your comment. I only do that with name callers and those who refuse charity toward my readers.

      Blessings to you!

  3. Hi Richard, od’s Truth comes first with me which is all about Grace but He gave us guidlines to follow for a reason, I could decide to change the rules of the road to suite me and make the red light to mean go and the green one to mean stop and even get people to agree with me but I would be putting my life and others in danger. God does not set his guidlines to make it hard for us but because He Loves us and is protecting us, yes He still gives us free will and sadly many will spend eternity in hell but it is their choice, sin is sin and we will be accountable for it unless we come to heart repentance and so put our evil flesh nature to death by The Spirit and are Born Again of God’s seed and then He tells us how we will be not because we have to but just because we are.

1 John 3:1-11(9) No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

  4. I preach in a world where most still prefer topical sermons that change from week to week. It has been a struggle, but they are becoming more used to preaching through the context of a passage. Even when I preach topically, the topic is always centered around the exposition of a passage.

God bless you for desiring to faithfully expound His Word.

    1. We live in a world where the pew enjoys topical sermons. Like the tag from a popular television series: “Sermons ripped right out of today’s headlines.” Most pastors I know preach topically, not realizing that Paul wrote Ephesians, for example, as a complete idea for a reason. Sometimes pastors prefer to do lazy work of picking an idea and then finding a few verses from the concordance to support the premise. Others prefer to tantalize a mind-numbed generation rather than serve the full-course of God’s Word. I had a denominational leader tell me once never to preach a series longer than 4 weeks because no one can remember a concept that long.

I’ve been preaching through Romans for the past 2 years. Seldom being able to faithfully expound more than a verse or three in one sermon. But my people know the Word of God and know the God of the Word! I’m also preaching through Genesis in a mid-week service. Some of my people began watching “The Bible” series on television recently. Rather than to be educated or entertained, they’re watching to pick out the many errors in the series and then share how unfaithful the series is to the Word of Truth.

We are called by God to rightly handle the Word of Truth. Like a fine meal, we study a recipe, choose the finest ingredients, prepare the kitchen, then painstakingly follow the recipe before serving. Our guests will have no idea how much effort we put into the meal, but we’ve been faithful, and in the end, know that we’ve done our best and served our guests the best. So must we do with the Scripture.

My prayers will be with you too, as you feed His sheep.

Pastor, I’ve never read this before but can verify the truth of your statements here. Anyone that may have any doubts about Pastor Rice’s teachings are welcome to visit our church or contact me. I’ve learned from Pastor Rice words are important and picking words or verses out of context of the complete thought is misleading and dishonest and does not reveal the real truth of God’s Word.

    Hi pastor Richard,
Have seen this for the first time and feel moved to leave a comment too. Those who have heard you teach or preach for even less than an hour are the only ones who can appreciate how the Lord uses you to handle the TRUTH.Here in Kenya,in Berean school of ministry and Bible instute and also in Family of Christ celebration Church where i pastor, we can testify to what you said in your statement.Expository way of teaching the Holy Scriptures in my view is the best way to go if we are teaching in a church gathering.Other ways like topical etc, may be can work elsewhere but i also think it will depend on who is doing it and for what reason. When you were here you summarised the book of Jonah in an hours time and my students still remember almost everything that you taught from that book.Have been teaching the book of Acts for the last twenty months and am now in chapter twenty. My people who have consistently been attending the Bible study class still enjoy it even after that long.Keep on keeping on my brother and i want you to know that your blogs are such a blessing to me.
    Isaac.
